As we are coming to the end of August, the warmer weather is slowly but surely approaching. Which means only one thing…it’s time to get into shape and achieve that summer bod we’ve been nourishing with hearty meals all winter.

Getting that summer body can become so daunting when we have never stepped foot into a gym before – and only ever wear active wear to Sunday brunches, that’s it. I mean…who said we have to go to a physical gym? We have found four applications in which you can use to achieve your dream bod, without spending an arm and a leg on a gym membership. In fact, these apps are completely free (and we’re not kidding).


PEAR Personal Fitness Coach (Android, iOS: Free)

This application incorporates eyes and hands-free audio coaching, giving users the ability to concentrate purely on their bodies and the workout. This program gives you access to a wide variety of workout packages and different coaches to help you out along the way. PEAR also keeps track of your performances,also giving you the option to share metrics with other fitness apps in the comfort of your own home. How good does this sound! But hey…as good as it sounds, motivation is the key here! #inspo

Workout Trainer (Android, IOS: Free)

Next, we have a personal trainer that we don’t have to embarrass ourselves in front of. How amazing is that?! This application offers thousands of free workouts that are assisted with timed step-by-step audio and video demonstrations. ‘Workout trainer’ also allows you to customise your own workout plans as well as access workouts shared by the community. Of course, like many other apps there is an option for a premium subscription, unlocking more workout plans and videos – however, this is just an option and the application is 100% functional while being a free app, so don’t fall for those tricks and save your mullah!

Runtastic (Android, IOS: Free)

It does not matter how you train, whether that  would be running, jogging or cycling. Runtastic is the app for you. It keeps track of your workouts as well as sets goals for you to achieve. It uses a built in GPS to record routes in real-time and an optional tool that allows you share your successes with your friends. Because you know…what’s the point of doing it if no one knows? #forthegram. The highlight of this app, is that is syncs with Apple Music while you train to offer high tempo playlists for true motivation. Yeah, you can train whilst listening to the Biebs, Eminem or Salt n’ Pepper, your choice!

Asana Rebel: Yoga and Fitness

Lastly, we talk about the silent yet killer – yoga! Yoga can be scary for some, but let us reassure you that you do not have to be a full blown ‘yogi’ to use Asana Rebel. This snazzy little application offers a perfect introduction to yoga. Rather than bombarding you with notifications that we all hate, you get a small green dot on the built-in calendar when you train, making sure it keeps track of your efforts. It also gives you two new workouts every day, so you never get bored of doing the same old routine. You’ll be mastering the frog pose and headstands in no time!

So, there you have it, four free and simple applications that can help you train in the comfort of your own home. Cutting out all of the awkwardness of not knowing how to use the gym equipment and judgey stares from the hardcore gym junkies. Whether you’re wanting to achieve that desired six pack or just simply trying to improve your conditioning, you cannot go past these fabulous applications. It’s almost Spring, which means there’s zero excuses now. Hey…summer bodies are made it the winter time right?
