WORDS BY TOM CUMMING
Sadly Adelaide Fashion Festival has left us for another year, but it hasn’t skipped town without leaving us with a bunch of amazing memories to tide us over until next time. One of the biggest standouts for us here at Girl About Town was the Mercedes Benz Unley Long Lunch, hosted smack bang on King William Road in Hyde Park, a delightfully decadent display of everything the long-time favourite fashion district has to offer.
The long lunch was staged on Friday the 13th, so naturally, our morning set up was greeted with a torrential downpour. But Lady Luck must have had a soft spot for us that day, or maybe a great eye for fashion festivities because it wasn’t long before the sun peeped out through the storm clouds and promised not to leave us for the rest of the day. With the always needed PR resourcefulness that comes with any event (and a truckload of adrenaline), we had the whole set up stripped of the soaked table settings and re-set just in time to welcome the 500 guests. Talk about pulling off a miracle in the eleventh hour!
With the hard yards behind us, there was nothing left to do but settle in for an electric runway show, made all the better by sampling delicious food throughout. The day brought us the hottest 2017 pieces from Wild Child, Eco-D, Denim Iniquity, Denim & Cloth, Designer Exchange, Cable, Husk Muse Boutique, Skin and Things and Karran’s of Hyde Park. The looks presented on the runway were divine and made all the better with the knowledge that they were available for purchase at the stores surrounding us, bringing new meaning to the term ‘immersing yourself in fashion’.
Prosecco’s in hand, bold fashion statements galore, the Mercedes Benz Unley Long Lunch gave us everything and more! A great day in support of Variety, fashion with a cause. We’ll see you next year AFF, for an even bigger and better Long Lunch, somebody just make sure Lady Luck gets placed on the VIP list this time around.
