'Til Death

‘Til Death

It’s certainly not easy juggling a personal life with a career, especially when you’re the director of your own PR business. I wouldn’t give up my non-stop busy life for anything, but even ‘girlbosses’ need to let their hair down every once in a while. Over the weekend I had just the event that made my world stop, even if only for one magical night; my engagement party!

My fiancé James and I hosted 150 of our closest friends and family at Plant 4 Bowden for a celebration of our engagement, a night I’ll definitely never forget. First things first, the venue! Plant 4 Bowden was the ideal space for our engagement party, spacious (but not too big) and inviting. Dusk slowly transitioned into night and the space was aglow with hundreds of fairy lights, candles, and beautiful floral arrangements. Some people like to have their fairy-tale wedding but I guess I’m the fairy-tale engagement kind of girl.

Food and drink for any event is always make or break, so naturally, I opted for crowd favourites this night, you’ve got to give the people what they want, and there was no shortage of satisfaction among guests once they laid eyes on the grazing table supplied by Jessie Spiby, who was on Masterchef. Following this, the canapés started coming out consisting of Thai prawns, arancini balls, sausage rolls, mac and cheese pots, and brisket sliders. The icing on the cake was in fact our spectacular cake supplied by Pasta Deli. If you’re reading this James, sorry about the face full of icing, a gal can’t resist a photo op sometimes!

A bride to be is nothing without her glam squad and thankfully I had some expert level girls on deck to bring my vision to life. Ali Buss on makeup for a soft glow, Hair by Jaz for sleek braids and an effortless high pony, finished off with a jumpsuit by MISHA. I didn’t want to go over the top (that’s what the finale- I mean, wedding’s for right?) so I kept it elegant and sophisticated, I couldn’t have been happier with the finished product.

Halo Booth, NV Photography, and Matthew Kroker helped capture the night via a fun and interactive photo booth and constant photography throughout the event – memories I will now be able to have forever.

Last but not least, a massive shout to Alyse from The Stylist’s Guide for helping me put it all together. She brought my vision to life and knew exactly what I wanted. From the incredible floral installations to the balloons from Party on Paper, everything was just perfect!

Standing there in the midst of an event dedicated purely to mine and James’ love was a really special moment, immersed in the warm company of all the important people in our lives. I feel blessed to have been able to pull off such an incredible event, but even more blessed to have so many people to donate time and energy towards making it all come to fruition. Business partners turned good friends have always been an integral part of what makes Girl About Town so successful and the results are always in the final product.

If the engagement was anything to go by, our upcoming wedding will be one for the ages! Until next time, Maree x
